An exhibition, exploration, and exposition of the nasty & brutish (but certainly neither solitary nor short) sport of politics in Delaware.
Why Caesar Rodney's Ghost?
Caesar Rodney was always sort of a mystery. No one knew what he really looked like, and he was an even more shadowy figure because of that silken scarf he wore to cover up his face cancer. If anything, he is Delaware's only true mythological figure (Joe Biden excepted). Call him the Paul Revere of Delaware. In this sense, Caesar Rodney has become to me a symbol of Delaware: hidden, secretive, and outwardly noble.
Delaware, of course, is much different now than it was when Rodney made his ride to Dover back in 1776. But Delaware is even different than it was 50, 40, or even 10 years ago. The supposedly genteel "Delaware Way" is yielding its grip on Delaware politics to a more bruising style. Likewise, voters are at least starting to grumble about the cabal of career politicians who run the state, and who embodied the "Delaware Way" -- even if they have so far been unwilling to vote them out.
